The Overwatch 2 community, particularly those who are well-known and respected within the community such as influencers, are once again expressing frustration with the hero known as Mercy. Despite the fact that the original Overwatch game was released in 2016, Mercy remains a contentious figure among players. Many blame her for the game’s balance issues, claiming that she is a “parasite” that weakens the competitive integrity of the game.
However, instead of focusing on the new problems that have emerged with powerful heroes like Sojourn and lackluster events, many players within the community are instead choosing to reignite old debates about Mercy. This has caused disappointment among some players who believe that the community should be focusing on more pressing issues that affect the overall balance of the game.
While some may argue that Mercy is at the root of balance problems in Overwatch 2, others believe that this blame is misplaced, and that instead, the community should be looking at other factors that contribute to the game’s balance issues.
Overwatch 2, which replaced the original game in October, has entered its second season with a free-to-play, live service model, however, players are facing several issues with the game, one of the major being the slow pace of balance patches. Whether in Competitive or Quick Play mode, the infrequent patches by Blizzard have resulted in overpowered heroes and frustrating metas.
Sojourn, the new DPS hero with a railgun and quick movement, remains a major balance issue in Overwatch 2 despite Blizzard’s attempts to weaken her in the December patch. She has the capability to quickly fire her machine gun, charge up her railgun shot, and land a deadly headshot in a matter of seconds, all while maneuvering around the map. When paired with a Mercy’s damage boost, Sojourn’s headshot becomes a guaranteed kill against most heroes. This makes her a formidable opponent in the game.
